HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A 38-year-old Hartsville businessman is facing multiple charges after investigators in Darlington County uncovered a murder-for-hire plot.

Capt. Andy Locklair, spokesman for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, said Hadi Masoud, 38, of Hartsville, was arrested on two counts of solicitation of a felony after allegedly arranging to have his wife and her friend killed.

Investigators said they learned of the plot through a random tip, sparking an undercover investigation into the claims. Masoud agreed to pay a hit man $7,000 for the murders, not knowing the man was an undercover officer.

Masoud is currently in custody at the Darlington County Detention Center where he is awaiting bond.
