Summerville mayor released from hospital

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville Mayor Berlin G. Myers was released from the hospital Tuesday morning.

Myers was admitted after he felt faint in church on Sunday and fell and hit his head on a pew. Officials say that Myers spent Sunday night in the hospital.

Myers was admitted to Summerville Medical Center Monday and was listed in fair condition before being released Tuesday.

He was elected in 1972 and is in the process of stepping down. He has served 10 consecutive terms as mayor.

Myers began his political career in Summerville as a town councilman in 1965. Myers first took office as mayor when Mayor Allan Luke died in office. Myers then won the position in 1972.
