Man tased, arrested for allegedly trafficking cocaine

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston man is in custody after police say he was found in possession of 105 grams of cocaine and 7 grams of marijuana. According to authorities, the suspect ran from police and had to be tased.

North Charleston police arrested 22-year-old Shane Darles Jenkins of Indian Street and charged him with trafficking cocaine.

Units responded to 4011 Niagra Street in reference to a burglary alarm activation Wednesday around 3:20 p.m. Upon arrival, police witnessed a subject exiting the residence towards a cab that was parked in front of the home.

A police reports says that officers told the subject, later identified as Jenkins, to come over to them, but he began to walk away and then fled on foot across the street.

The officer gave several verbal commands to stop, but Jenkins kept running, according to the report. As Jenkins tried to jump a fence, the officer tased the subject in the back and buttocks.

While police placed the suspect under arrest, he began kicking off a pair of cargo shorts as he was being ordered onto his stomach. The subject had to be tased two more times until he complied with the officer's orders, the police report says.

Officers searched the cargo shorts and found 103.4 grams of cocaine in two plastic bags. They also found $48, a cell phone and a digital scale on the subject.

While executing a search warrant at the residence, police seized 7 grams of marijuana and a partially smoked marijuana cigarette on the coffee table. They also seized another digital scale, 2 grams of cocaine, several clear plastic bags and a sawed off shotgun.

Jenkins was then transported and booked into the Charleston County Detention Center and charged with trafficking cocaine. Police say Jenkins gave conflicting information as to whether or not he resides at the location, but gave his address as Charleston.
