WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that a man riding his bike on Highway 61 in West Ashley around midnight Sunday is to blame for an accident involving a Charleston County Sheriff's Office patrol car.
The 76-year-old deputy involved in a Sunday night wreck with a bicyclist will not face charges.
The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, at the intersection of Ashley Hall and Ashley River Roads in West Ashley.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, 76-year-old Deputy James Foster was on duty traveling north on Highway 61, when the cyclist crossed in front of the patrol car about 100 feet past the intersection.
The bicyclist, 27-year-old James Lutz, was transported to MUSC. He was listed in fair condition on Monday morning.
Troopers said that Lutz was wearing dark-colored clothing. The officer was not injured.
