Trident to cut 35 jobs following new legislation

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Trident Health System is laying off 35 full-time employees following cuts in State Medicaid reimbursements to doctors and hospitals.

For Trident Health System specifically, the change will result in an approximate $2.1 million reduction on an annual basis.

The cuts represent less than 2 percent of the 1,800 employee work force.

"Our top priority is the quality of care for our patients and that will remain," said Trident Health System CEO Todd Gallati. "Reorganizations are always difficult; but the significance of the State's cuts to the Medicaid program caused us to act in the best interest of the overall health of the organization."
