Home invasion suspects nabbed after using stolen cell phone
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say four people who broke into a home and robbed a couple were tracked down after the suspects used a cell phone they stole from the victims.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged 21-year-old Timothy Lamar Drayton, 24-year-old Lavorieo Gathers and 22-year-old Demetrice Myers with first-degree burglary. Jakelia Ladson Sharde was also charged with accessory after the fact.
Deputies responded to Master's Inn on 6100 Rivers Ave. on Monday in reference to a burglary investigation that had happened earlier that day. Major Jim Brady says that one of the suspects used a cell phone that he stole during a home invasion burglary at a home on Eagle Drive.
When authorities arrived they saw Myers and Drayton coming out of a motel room. Both matched descriptions by the burglary victims. Investigators say they found Myers wearing one of the stolen rings from the home as well as cash that was identified stolen from the home.
When officers looked inside of the suspects' hotel room they found Ladson. According to a police report, officers saw numerous items that was stolen from the home.
The arrests stem from a burglary that happened earlier in the day at a home on Eagle Drive in North Charleston. Deputies responded to the home in reference to a burglary. One of the victims said he heard a loud banging sound and wasn't sure what it was and got out of bed to investigate.
Shortly thereafter he realized he was being held at gunpoint by a man wearing a ski mask.The victim was then ordered to his knees and not to look at the suspect.
The female victim said she was also held at gun point and ordered to her knees. Both victims said there were three or more suspects inside the home.
The male victim said that they were on their knees for a long time while the suspects rummaged through their home. The victims said that the their cell phones were taken, along with a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, two pistols, three shotguns, jewelry and cash.
The victim said that once the suspects were gone he called police.
