Lottery ticket pays off mortgage for Eutawville family

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Eutawville woman is ready to pay off her mortgage after winning $100,000 from a lottery ticket.

She won on the $5 Black Pearls ticket and ordered her husband to lock the door while she hid the ticket in a junk drawer in the kitchen and have the family dog sleep by the door.

The couple is ready to trade the winnings for the deed to their house.

"We'll be debt free soon," her husband said.

The ticket was purchased from Stricklands One Stop Inc. in Eutawville.  The retailer receives a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.

The Eutawville resident claimed the last top prize in the $5 Black Pearls game.

Since the start of the lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina's students. In all, more than $2.5 billion has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
