4 stabbed after argument outside West Ashley grocery store

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Court records say a verbal disagreement led one man to pull out a "military style knife" and stab four people in the parking lot of a West Ashley Piggly Wiggly Saturday night.

Authorities arrested 29-year-old Joshua Nix and charged him with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery 2nd degree and possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime.

Court records say Nix got into an argument with a man outside the grocery store just before 10 p.m. At the height of the argument, Nix pulled out a knife he had in his pocket and started swinging.

The affidavit states, three people tried to break up the advance but were cut by the knife wielding man. One victim received a cut on his forehead and another a cut on his head while trying to fend off Nix.

A woman who stepped in front of Nix to protect her boyfriend was cut across her neck.

The affidavit says Nix then went after the victim who he started arguing with. After a short chase, Nix stabbed him in the side, puncturing his lung.

EMS arrived on the scene and treated the four victims. The woman with the gash and the man with the punctured lung were transported to MUSC.

After getting witness statements, Police tracked Nix to the Motel 6 across the street on Savannah Highway. Nix was arrested after being identified by witnesses at the scene.

Nix went through bond court Sunday morning. On five charges, Nix received a $240,000 surety bond.
