Authorities investigate Beaufort kidnapping
BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged kidnapping that happened early Sunday morning in the area of LH Nelson Drive and Grant Street in Beaufort Sunday morning.
At 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, deputies met with a 21-year-old woman who said that she had been abducted several hours earlier while walking down the road.
The victim said that she decided to go out for a walk around 3 a.m. after an argument with her fiance. While walking in the area of LH Nelson Drive and Grant Street, she said she was approached by an unknown black male driving a white pickup truck.
According to the sheriff's office, the subject offered her a ride, but the victim refused and continued walking. The victim said the subject then reportedly got out, grabbed the victim from behind and forced her into the passenger side of the truck.
According to the victim, the subject identified himself as "Mark" and upon coming to a stop at a traffic light on Broad River Boulevard, she jumped out of the truck. The suspect then fled the area.
The victim said she then hid in some nearby woods when the suspect returned and drove back and forth, looking for her.
Authorities say she was then able to walk to a family member's home and contacted the sheriff's office several hours later.
The victim said that the suspect did not appear to be armed with any weapon and described him as a black male between 20 to 40 years old, 5'7", 225 pounds, wearing a white sweater and camouflage baseball cap.
She also said that she was missing her bag which had contained various clothing, papers, and prescription medications, believing it had been left in the truck when she fled.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact either Investigator Sgt. C. Wilson at 843-255-3409 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
