WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Walterboro Public Safety officers arrested a man Sunday night after he was caught carrying a gun that was stolen from the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.

According to the incident report, officers responded to 189 Beach Road around 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers saw a group of men on the balcony of the "H" building.

Officers asked the men if they heard gunshots, which they denied. When officers asked if any of the men was carrying a weapon, Jylin Daquan Ford lifted his shirt and showed a handgun tucked in his belt.

After seizing the weapon, officers realized it was reported stolen by the sheriff's office.

Ford was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful carrying of a pistol. He was taken to the Colleton County Detention Center.
