Goose Creek man wanted for armed robbery at ATM
GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Police are on the lookout for a 21-year-old man accused of attempting to rob a woman at an ATM in Goose Creek Monday night.
The Goose Creek Police Department is looking for Steven A. Withers II for an armed robbery that took place at the South Carolina Federal Credit Union on 82 Bridgetown Rd.
Authorities say the victim was in her car at the ATM in the middle of a transaction when a man with a dark hoodie approached her from the rear of her vehicle and said,"Give me the money."
The victim then canceled the transaction. According to the victim, she felt threatened because the suspect was holding something in his right hand which was hidden underneath his sweatshirt.
The victim then pulled away from the ATM and drove off. According to police, the suspect then followed the victim on foot. Authorities say when the victim was stopped at a stop sign, she saw the suspect approaching her vehicle and turned on her bright lights.
She then drove away and looked into her rear view mirror and saw the suspect walking back towards the bank.
The victim told the officers that there was a beige or gold colored 4-door vehicle that was at the other side of the ATM during the incident but wasn't sure if the vehicle belonged to the suspect or not. A Berkeley County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit responded and a track was followed to the rear of the old nearby Food Lion building where the track was lost.
Investigators say that Withers is wanted in connection to the attempted armed robbery and is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information you are asked to call 911 or the Goose Creek Police Department at 863-5200.
