CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police have upgraded the charges against a shooting suspect after the victim died early Friday.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 42-year-old Shelton Singletary, of North Charleston, died from a gunshot wound at MUSC at approximately 1 a.m. Friday.

The suspect, 48-year-old Kelvin Clay Shuler, is now charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Shuler was denied bond on the murder charge during a hearing on Friday.  He was granted a $50,000 bond on the weapons charge.

According to investigators, a group of friends were at a home on Odessa Street around 4 p.m. Thursday when a verbal dispute began between two of them.

Police say the dispute then turned physical. Authorities say that's when Shuler entered the home, grabbed a gun and shot Singletary.
