NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a woman was taken to the hospital after she was shot by her ex-boyfriend Sunday afternoon in the 2600 block of Ferrara Drive in North Charleston.

North Charleston Police Department officers responded to a call at the location at approximately 2 p.m. after receiving a call from a man who told police that he had just shot his ex-girlfriend and was threatening to shoot himself.

When police arrived on the scene the victim's son told investigators that his mother's ex-boyfriend 44-year-old Elder Wilson shot his mom.  She was taken to MUSC.

Authorities say when they entered the home, Wilson was found holding a handgun to his head. Officers were able to get Wilson to put down the gun and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Wilson is charged with attempted murder.
