CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested an armed robbery suspect on Saturday, hours after they say he tried to rob a man at gunpoint near Society and Meeting streets.
Charleston Police Department officers say the victim was getting into his vehicle around 2 a.m. when 21-year-old Jaton Lamont Edwards, of North Charleston, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.
Police said the victim refused and Edwards got into a vehicle and fled the scene.
The victim provided a description of the suspect and was also able to give police the vehicle's tag number. Edwards was arrested later Saturday during a traffic stop near Meeting and Romney streets.
He is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
