Cops: Manager shot during armed robbery in N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting which happened early Friday in North Charleston.

North Charleston Police Department officers responded to the A-1 Gas Station at the corner of Spruill Avenue and Bexley Street around 1:00 a.m.

Police say the victim told them he was preparing to close his store when an unknown man came into the store wearing all-dark clothing and a mask covering his face.

The victim told police the man was carrying a handgun and fired once into the ceiling after he entered the store and demanded money from the victim.

The suspect grabbed the cash box from the register and ran for the door.  On his way out, police said the suspect turned and fired a shot, hitting the victim in the thigh.

He was taken to the hospital and treated and released.

The suspect was last seen running in the direction of Bexley Street.
