Fireworks light up Charleston to celebrate the 4th
MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Thousands packed in to watch a patriotic display high above the sky for the Patriots Points 4th of July Blast.
The fireworks show brought 25,000 people, some from out of town, including a family from Charlotte. Nikki Trainham says she waited seven hours to watch the fireworks.
"I think we got here around 2 o'clock," Trainham said. "Because we heard this is the second best show to see and we love Charleston."
Trainham had a pretty good spot for the fireworks, but this year, for the first time ever, the USS Yorktown opened its flight deck for a front row view.
Back on land the whole day took on a bit of a party atmosphere.
"This is my favorite time of year," said one woman. "It's the best time of year."
And for Angie Brose, this Independence Day takes on a bit of a special meaning.
"I just a month ago became a U.S. citizen and I've been waiting for that for 14 years so this is a big 4th of July for me," said Brose, who is from Germany.
As the fireworks of all colors lit up the sky, on the ground it was all about the red white and blue.
So whether those in attendance were dancing on the flight deck or sitting back and watching the skyline, it was a happy 4th at Patriots Point.
