Ryan Steed Cut By NY Jets

Pinewood Prep alum Ryan Steed was released by the New York Jets on Wednesday as teams around the league continue to make moves to finalize their roster at 53 players. The Lowcountry native was given a medical release due to a fractured pelvis according to his mother, Lisa King.

Steed was signed by the Jets the night of the NFL Draft after not being selected anywhere in the 7 rounds. He was a 3 time All SoCon 1st team selection at cornerback while playing for Furman.

Other player with South Carolina ties who have been let go this week include,

Former Clemson OL Thomas Austin who was let go by the Houston Texans on Sunday. Austin was claimed by the team off waivers before last season. He's also spent time with the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings.

Former SC State DB Dominique Ellis was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He signed a free agent deal with the team after going undrafted this season.

Spencer Lanning, the former South Carolina punter, was cut by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. He was signed by the team back in May and has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears. On Tuesday Lanning was picked up by the New York Jets.

Former Gamecocks DE Eric Norwood was let go by the Carolina Panthers on Monday. He was a 4th round pick of the Panthers in the 2010 Draft after being a 3 time All SEC selection with South Carolina. He had 24 tackles and a sack in 2 NFL seasons.

Former Citadel WR Kevin Hardy was released by the New Orleans Saints on Monday. He was signed by the team after going undrafted.

Ricky Sapp, the former Clemson DE, was waived by the Jets on Friday. He was a 5th round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010.
