After school counselor charged in internet predator case

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested an after school counselor accused of soliciting sex from someone he thought was a minor.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office has charged Rickey Joe Sansom with one count of criminal solicitation of a minor which is a felony offense punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Officials with the sheriff's office Internet Crimes Division say they began an investigation on Sansom after authorities discovered he was using a social networking website to communicate with what he believed to be a minor female child and solicited sex.

At the time of his arrest, investigators say Sansom was employed as an after school counselor for children 5 to 12 years of age.

The Computer Crimes Division of the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Sansom's bail was set at $30,000.
