Authorities: Missing 12-year-old, sex offender likely headed to Florida
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina say they believe a convicted sex offender is heading towards Florida with a missing 12-year-old girl.
Abigaile Faith Lefevers, believed to be with 38-year-old Timothy Howard Newman, was reported missing days ago.
On Tuesday, the sheriff's office spread word that Lefevers and Newman may be in the Myrtle Beach area or possibly traveling along the SC coast. Now, they believe Newman is taking her to the "Sunshine State."
According to investigators, Newman is known to be knowledgeable of waterways along the east coast. Officials with SLED says there is a possibility that Newman is hanging around marinas and could possibly be on a boat.
Authorities say Newman has experience as a truck driver and if he is still traveling, he may be driving along back roads in order to avoid major highways.
Lefevers last known location was 128 McNeil Road, Newport, NC. Lefevers is 5'4" and 90 pounds. She has green eyes and brown should length hair.
SLED is searching for a red 1998 Chrysler Sebring with a black top with NC tags AKT 6534.
According to SLED, the vehicle was last seen traveling on US 17 southbound.
