CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a 36-year-old man wanted for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl was arrested by US Marshals in New York on Monday.

Authorities arrested Robert Dewayne Anderson from North Charleston. Anderson was wanted on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a minor. Anderson was featured on Live 5's Most Wanted segment last Thursday.

"Crimes against children, it's an awful thing," said Detective Christina Smith.

Smith said Anderson allegedly sexually assaulted the girl back in February and August, 2012.

According to deputies, the young accuser spoke up when she was interviewed at the Lowcountry Children's Center.

"I think it's gonna be important to get him into custody in reference to this victim and bring some justice to her," Smith said. "We do not want to give him the opportunity to re-offend."

Smith said Anderson has promised several times to turn himself in. A visit to the fugitive's home came up empty.

"Given the opportunity to turn himself in, given the opportunity to come in and give his side of the story, he failed at these attempts," Smith said. "It makes it even a little more important that to make sure we get this guy in custody.'
