Colleton County puppies saved from being put down thanks to road trip
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - It's a trip of a lifetime for 17 puppies. They're on a journey to a new home, saving them from being put down.
The puppies are traveling from Colleton County Animal Control all the way to Maine.
"This is the first transport we've done," said Tim Lynes with Colleton County Animal Control. We're limited on space and we're limited on adoptive homes here."
"I used to work at the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, Maine. We started importing puppies because in New England we have gotten spay and neutered under control," says volunteer Suzanne Carr. "When we first started importing them, people would spend the night in the parking lot for these Dixie dogs."
The puppies are expected to be adopted out pretty quickly.
Each pet will cost about 250 dollars to be adopted and part of that money will go back to Colleton County Animal Control.
