COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, the sister of late night comedian and South Carolina native Stephen Colbert, is planning to run for Congress in the 1st District race, according to the state's Democratic Party.

According to Amanda Loveday, executive director of the state's Democrats, Colbert-Busch has told the party of her intentions to seek the seat vacated by Sen. Tim Scott.

Scott was recently appointed to Jim DeMint's Senate seat after he left to run the Heritage Foundation.

Colbert-Busch is currently the director of business development at the Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility at Clemson University.

She enters an already crowded field of contenders for coastal district seat.

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford announced his intentions to seek the Republican nomination for the seat he once held from 1995 to 2001. Other GOP hopefuls include state Sen. Larry Grooms, SC House Rep. Chip Limehouse, and House Rep. Andy Patrick to name a few.
