CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 21-year-old West Ashley man is behind bars after police say he threatened a detective following a court hearing.

The Charleston Police Department charged Damil Quayshaun Keith with threatening a public official.

Last Tuesday, a detective was in Municipal Court for a petit larceny charge involving Keith. After the hearing, the judge sentenced Keith to pretrial intervention and for him to pay restitution.

After the verdict, the detective, Keith and his attorney all walked out of the courtroom.

While outside the courtroom, the detective told Keith's attorney that his client would have to pay $1,000 in restitution to the victim.

A police report states that when Keith heard the detective, he said,"You think that's funny. I got something. I'll take care of you."

According to investigators, while Keith was making the comment, he pointed his finger at the detective.

Keith's attorney then said,"I can't believe you just said that."
