Records: Woman charged in man's death had prior DUI
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Court records indicate the 24-year-old Hanahan woman charged with felony DUI following a deadly I-526 accident that took the life of a 35-year-old man is awaiting trial on a prior DUI charge.
According to online court records, Lisa Pistolis was charged with DUI in February 2012. That case has not yet gone to trial.
On Monday, North Charleston police charged Lisa Pistolis with felony DUI with death and felony DUI with great bodily injuries. Pistolis was given a $73,374 bond Monday evening.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 35-year-old Serjei Cahuantzi from Charleston died from the accident.
On Sunday around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of eastbound Mark Clark and the Dorchester Road overpass for a vehicle accident involving injuries and ejections.
A police report states that Pistolis was driving a Mustang on I-526 when the vehicle drifted off the roadway and into the median.
Investigators say when Pistolis attempted to get the Mustang back on the roadway, she collided with a Jeep which Cahuantzi was driving. Both vehicles then spun out of control.
The Jeep then flipped several times.
Officers say when they arrived at the scene, they found Cahuantzi dead on the ground in front of the Jeep.
Pistolis and a passenger in the Jeep were transported to MUSC. Police say two passengers in the Mustang did not appear to be seriously injured.
Traffic was rerouted to Leeds Avenue. The eastbound lanes on I-526 remained closed for several hours following the incident.
