I-526 traffic moving again following fatal accident near Rivers exit

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Traffic is moving again on I-526 following a fatal accident that happened in the area of the Rivers Avenue exit that had traffic at a standstill for several hours on Monday.

Authorities reported around 8:26 p.m. that all eastbound lanes were open.

The North Charleston Police Department says around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a six vehicle accident.

Authorities report that the accident involved two semi trucks and four other vehicles. Police say at least one person died and two others were transported to area hospitals.

The cause of the is accident is under investigation.

Earlier on Monday, all eastbound lanes of Interstate 526 were closed following an 18-wheeler wreck and a fuel spill which snarled traffic.

On Sunday afternoon, NCPD responded to the area of the Mark Clark and Dorchester Road for a two vehicle accident that took the life of one man.
