COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 12-year-old girl who had been reported missing told authorities she left a bus stop because she did not want to go to school.

Officials with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office say they found the girl after she was reported missing in Colleton County by her mother on Thursday morning.

According to Colleton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ted Stanfield, the girl was reported missing Thursday at 6:15 a.m. Deputies found the girl in an abandoned house on Springhill Road in the area she was reported missing from.

Stanfield said the girl appears to be okay physically, but could not provide more information at this time.

According to the child's mother, her child was at the school bus stop waiting on her bus when the bus driver reported that the child was not at the stop but her books were. The stop was located at 243 Springhill Road in Green Pond.

Deputies searched the immediate area and "A CHILD IS MISSING" alert was sent out for 3.5 mile radius, Stanfield said .
