Report: 12-year-old boy injured after accidental shotgun blast

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say they are investigating the accidental shooting of a 12-year-old boy who was shot with a shotgun at a home in Walterboro.

The Walterboro Public Safety Department says the shooting happened at a home on Center Street when the boy was playing with a 16-year-old family member.

According to investigators, both of the juveniles claimed the incident was an accident.

An incident report states the victim was shot in the upper thigh area by bird shot from the shotgun.

The victim was transferred to MUSC from Colleton Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Walterboro Public Safety Department along with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
