WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A 25-year-old Virginia man is accused of raping a 25-year-old woman at her West Ashley home last year.

The Charleston Police Department arrested Richard Morris, of Burkeville, Virginia, last Monday, following an investigation which began late last year.  He is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to an incident report, the woman spoke with officers at the Charleston Police Department on Dec. 28.  The victim told officers that she had been raped by Morris on Nov. 17, 2012 at her home on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard.

According to the victim, Morris was staying at the victim's home while passing through on his way to Miami when the incident happened.

Morris is a distant relative of the victim, according to the report.  He has been released from the Charleston County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond, according to court records.
