COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The man arrested and charged with shooting his girlfriend in the head and then setting her body on fire in a wooded area off Screaming Eagle Road will also face a fire charge.
According to the South Carolina Forestry Commission, 23-year-old Tristan Gist will also be charged with woods arson in connection with the fire investigators say he started.
Richland County investigators say Gist shot his girlfriend, 22-year-old Dierra Fisher, and then drove her body to the wooded location.
Deputies say Fisher was 21 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
Gist, a former corrections officer at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, has been formally charged with murder and death or injury of a child in utero due to commission of a violent crime.
He was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. According to a South Carolina criminal background check, Gist has no prior arrests in the state.
