NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department arrested a 26-year-old man accused of attacking medical staff at two hospitals.

Authorities charged Marcus Ziegler of Harleyville with third-degree assault and battery.

On Saturday afternoon, a detective responded to Trident Medical Center on 9330 Medical Plaza in reference to an assault. The victim, a 26-year-old nurse, said she was assaulted by Ziegler while she was providing medical care to him.

A police report states that Ziegler was threatening the nurse and told her he was going to spit on her. Police say as the nurse was giving necessary medical treatment to Ziegler, he elbowed her on the left side of her face.

According to the victim, Ziegler was transported to Trident Medical Center after he assaulted staff at the Summerville Medical Center.

Security personnel told the detective that Ziegler had assaulted hospital staff in the past while being treated.
