NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a 42-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a girl at a home in North Charleston.

The North Charleston Police Department charged Michael Lunsford with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11.

At 3 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to an apartment on Stall Road in reference to a report of a sexual assault. The complaint told officers that his girlfriend was being sexually assaulted by a relative.

When authorities arrived at the apartment, the victim told police that she had been sexually assaulted by a family member, Lunsford, just moments before officers arrived.

Police say when they entered the home, they saw multiple knives near Lunsford and ordered him to get on his stomach.

The victim was sent to MUSC.

Lunsford was transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
