CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Secular humanists in the South Carolina Lowcountry are celebrating the National Day of Reason.

The event is called "Reasonfest" and it is being held on Thursday at Gage Hall in Charleston. The event features a stand-up comedian and an open microphone segment. During that segment attendees will be able to tell their stories of how they left organized religion to become atheists or agnostics.

The National Day of Reason was first observed nationally 10 years ago in response to the National Day of Prayer.

It's the first time the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry have held such an event since 2003.
