MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Police say it appears the woman who drover her car into a Wendy's in Mt. Pleasant on Monday morning experienced a medical condition just before the crash.
According to Mt. Pleasant Police Major Stan Gragg, the 33-year-old woman experienced the condition just before she accelerated through a parking space and crashed into the Wendy's at Johnnie Dodds and Houston Northcutt boulevards around 10:30 a.m.
The restaurant manager said the woman came around the building like she was going to park, but accelerated instead, causing the crash.
The woman was taken to Medical University of South Carolina for treatment.
Images from the scene show the vehicle, a Dodge Caliber, caused substantial damage to the building's brick walls and window, as well as considerable damage to property inside the restaurant.
The manager said the restaurant dining area was closed, but drive-through business would continue.
