Suspect charged in Johns Island convenience store armed robbery

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they have arrested a 20-year-old who robbed a Johns Island convenience store earlier this month.

Byron Rivers has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police say the incident occurred on May 7 around 11 p.m. Rivers approached a store clerk who was standing outside and forced him into the convenience store at gunpoint.

Once inside, police say Rivers stole money from the cash register and 10 packs of cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

Rivers is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center with his bond set at $480,000.
