Mt. Pleasant boater remains hospitalized after crashing into docks

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A 39-year-old man remains hospitalized Tuesday after crashing his boat into several docks on the Wando River Friday night, according to a spokesperson at MUSC.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the man, later identified as Brooks Brown, was taken to MUSC after he was located by rescue crews near the Hobcaw Yacht Club around 10:15 p.m.

According to an incident report, Brown crashed his boat into multiple docks along the Wando River until capsizing his boat under a dock at 210 Wandolea Drive.

The report states an open bottle of Corona was found aboard the crashed boat.

Authorities originally thought three more people were missing after the driver said his wife and two children were also aboard the boat.

All three were found safe at their home.

Tony Ciuffo with MUSC says Brown is listed in fair condition.

Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources assisted with the accident. There are currently no charges pending against the boater.

An investigation is ongoing.
