NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday after an early morning fire at a two-story condominium off Dorchester Road, officials say.

North Charleston and Ashley River Fire Departments were called out to a fire at 7:30 a.m. at The Park at Rivers Edge located in the 7900 block of Timber Creek Lane, according to Bianca Sancic with the North Charleston Fire Department.

Sancic says it took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

An elderly woman who was rescued from the burning condo was taken to the hospital, as was another resident who suffered minor burns to her hands and face, officials say.

According to Sancic, neighbors used a ladder to try to rescue the elderly woman, who was on the second story of the condo.

A release states six people were displaced by Thursday morning's fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
