Stolen trailer found, 884 cases of whiskey missing

FLORENCE, SC (WCSC) - A trailer containing 884 cases of whiskey that was stolen in a truck top heist in Florence over a week ago has been found empty.

According to a release from Chicken Cock Whiskey, an 18-wheeler packed with 10,000 bottles of Chicken Cock Whiskey from a distillery in Charleston was on its way to Texas when the tractor trailer was jacked from a Petro gas station in Florence, South Carolina.

The truck cab and the trailer were later found separately. However, the whiskey was missing from the trailer, the release states.

Matti Anttila, owner and president of the whiskey company, says the stolen haul carries a retail value of over $200,000 but could be worth as much as $1.4 million if sold through restaurants and bars.

The owner of the company offered a $10,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the return of the whiskey in full.
