Healthy recipe wins Mt. Pleasant student trip to White House

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A 9-year-old Mt. Pleasant student's spin on Brussels sprouts has won the student a trip to the White House to enjoy a healthy lunch with The First Lady.

Corbin Jackson is one of 54 children recognized by Michelle Obama, Epicurius, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Education as winners of The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

Kids ages 8-12 were asked to create a lunchtime recipe that is both healthy and delicious, with the winners being invited to join Michelle Obama for lunch at the White House on July 9. The winners will also tour the White House kitchen garden.

"I'm counting down the days until the winners join me at the White House to celebrate these healthy and delicious meals that kids everywhere will love," said First Lady Michelle Obama.

More than 1,300 recipes were submitted to the competition, according to a White House release.

Corbin's winning recipe is called "Bring it On, Brussels Sprout Wrap". A downloadable E-cookbook containing all the winning recipes will be released in July.
