CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department has arrested two roofers accused of stealing $5,000 worth of copper from Joe Riley Park.

Authorities arrested 49-year-old Paul Grieves and 48-year-old Joseph Harrison Friday morning and charged them with grand larceny.

According to an incident report, Charleston police were called out to Joe Riley Stadium on May 24 around 6:19 a.m. after it was reported copper cable and rods were missing.

A project manager from Coastal Roofing Co., Inc. told police the company had been performing renovations on the stadium since March 2013. On May 22 it was discovered that 60 copper lightening rods and 200-feet of 5/8" woven copper cable were missing from the site.

According to the project manager, one of his workers confirmed that several workers on the site were involved with the copper theft. Workers hired to install the copper would put the materials in trash bags and leave them by a dumpster which they would then grab after the project manager left.
