CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they issued citations to bartenders at three restaurants in Avondale last Friday for serving beer to an underage person as part of an undercover alcohol compliance check.
Investigators say an 18-year-old who was part of a sting was served alcohol at Mellow Mushroom, Pearlz, and Oak Barrel on Friday, June 21. The three busts took place between 8:40 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
According to incident reports, Matthew Martin at Oak Barrel and Rachel Keller at Mellow Mushroom did not asked the teen for identification. Shannon Russell at Pearlz asked for the teen's driver's license, but did not verify the age.
Police say the teen was carrying a valid driver's license that showed the teen was not old enough drink.
The bartenders were issued a citation for sale of beer to a person under 21 and issued a court date.
