MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF/WCSC) - [if gte mso 9]>
A teen from Eutawville died Monday in Myrtle Beach after being pulled from the ocean near 48th Avenue North, according to the coroner's office.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said 16-year-old Joshua Walley was in the ocean with his brother, cousin, and other family members around 3 p.m. when he began to struggle.
A 34-year-old man from Longs, Scott Woods, went in to help Walley and also got caught in the waves, according to Willard. After rescue crews pulled Walley and Woods from the water, they were transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Walley was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m., and Woods was pronounced dead just minutes later.
It is unknown how long they were in the water or what caused their distress, though Deputy Coroner Willard said she was told the water was very choppy.
