Report: Man shoots brother-in-law after accusation of infidelity

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say they have arrested a 29-year-old man who shot his brother-in-law after the victim accused him of cheating on his sister.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested Malcolm Maurice Brabham Tuesday afternoon and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Deputies responded to the area of 20 River Dr. at 9:30 p.m. on Monday in reference to a reported gunshot victim. The 33-year-old victim, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso, said he was shot by Brabham, his brother-in-law.

The victim said he had spent the evening riding around with Brabham and having drinks. According to the victim, the men stopped and picked up a female friend. An incident report states as the three drove around, the men began to argue in which the victim accused Brabham of cheating on his sister with the female they had just picked up.

At one point, the female left the vehicle, and the two men continued to argue. Authorities say the men continued to drive until they got to the area of Holly Hall Road and Little Capers Road where Brabham stopped the car.

The sheriff's office says when the victim left the car, the dispute continued to escalate. According to investigators, Brabham then got out a gun and shot the victim.

Brabham then took off in the car leaving the victim on the roadside, authorities say. The victim then walked to a nearby home on River Drive where he sought help.

The victim is currently at MUSC in stable condition.

The sheriff's office says Brabham will also be charged on other unrelated outstanding warrants to include violation of probation, criminal domestic violence and multiple court bench warrants.
