WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Two roommates are behind bars after authorities say they were twice called to an apartment complex early Wednesday for reports of  vandalism and unruly behavior.

Charleston County sheriff's deputies said they responded to 1752 Ashley Hall Road around 12:20 a.m. after two tenants reported vandalism. When they arrived, the two tenants told deputies their neighbors, 36-year-old William Barnhill and 22-year-old William Boyd, had been "banging on their apartment walls all night, causing items on their walls to fall off and break."

Deputies noted one tenant's front window had been shattered, and several of his model cars which were on a shelf in his apartment had also broken.

Boyd and Barnhill had also smashed the front windows to their apartment and refused to come outside when deputies asked, according to an incident report. As deputies were leaving the scene, they said Barnhill and Boyd stepped outside "and started yelling and slamming their front door again, locking themselves inside and refusing to come out."

Deputies then left the scene, but returned about 10 minutes later after a tenant called again, saying the duo were attempting to "break through the interior walls." When deputies returned, they said Boyd smashed another front window of a neighbor's apartment and ran back inside his own unit.

Boyd rebuffed their requests for him to exit the apartment, but deputies said they noticed an unresponsive Barnhill lying on the ground, so they entered the apartment and took both men into custody.

Deputies said they found "extensive damage" throughout the suspect's apartment walls and windows.

Barnhill and Boyd were taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.  They are facing charges of malicious injury to property and disorderly conduct.

Both men were issued $2,392 bonds on Wednesday.
