CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston County Zoning and Planning Department say they have created a Facebook page to better communicate with residents and visitors of Charleston County.
A press release states the department staff hopes to use social media to generate a wider range of community input for current and future planning efforts.
"Allowing more interaction will enhance the community's understanding of the various functions of the Department and expand the County's means of communicating with the public," said Dan Pennick, Charleston County Zoning & Planning Director. "Social media allows us to share information quickly and enables us to reach a wider audience who can have input on a variety of zoning and planning matters."
According to officials the department's Facebook page will be interactive in that citizens can sign up for department updates, and a link will be provided for people to submit comments and questions to the department.
The department released the following statement regarding the Facebook page.
Facebook users that "like" the new Facebook page will see meeting notifications for the County's Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission, updates on planning efforts and opportunities for community input, and links to articles from the American Planning Association and its local chapters, other government agencies and County partners. The Planning Commission is undergoing the five-year review of the Charleston County Comprehensive Plan, and Facebook will be utilized in conjunction with community meetings to gather more community input.
