COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - In the wake of the continued sex scandal embroiling New York City mayoral candidate and former Congressman Anthony Weiner, former South Carolina First Lady is offering up some advice to Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Sanford says Abedin has her sympathies.
"As a person and as a woman and as a wife, I've been through the painful reality of marriage with a troubled individual and having it in the press," said Sanford. "My heart goes out to her."
The Sanford's marriage ended very publicly with the admission during a tearful June 2009 press conference from former Gov. Mark Sanford that he carried on an affair with Maria Belen Chapur, a friend of his from Argentina.
Jenny and Mark eventually separated and divorced. She moved back to her home on Sullivan's Island and he recently won a Congressional seat in the Lowcountry and proposed to Chapur.
