MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A former teacher at a Mt. Pleasant daycare is accused of flicking a 4-year-old girl in the mouth, and throwing her up against a wall.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department charged 36-year-old Kelli Walker with cruelty to children.
On July 27, 2013, police met with a 27-year-old woman who reported that her daughter had been assaulted by a teacher at the Sunshine House at 753 Long Point Road.
The woman said she received a call from the director of the Sunshine House and was told that her daughter had been involved in an incident. Police say the director said the woman's 4-year-old child's teacher, Walker, plucked her daughter on the mouth four or five times causing the bottom lip to bleed.
The director said the teacher also snatched the woman's daughter by the arm and threw her up against a wall.
Police say the director contacted the Department of Social Services about the allegations. A police report states that another teacher witnessed Walker assaulting the juvenile.
The mother said after her daughter came home, she said that Ms. Walker "hurt" her.
"Ms. Walker hit me in my mouth really hard and I cried," the child stated in a police report. "She grabbed me by the arm and it hurt and hit me against the wall and told me to shut that bad word noise and stop crying."
Police say the juvenile said after she didn't stop crying, Walker said if she told her mom and dad, she wouldn't be allowed to go to a birthday party.
According to a police report, the mother said Walker was on probation at the school for another incident. The police report also states Walker was fired from the school on July 26.
The Sunshine House released the following statement:
