CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston's old library on Marion Square is gone.
The library's been closed for more than a decade, and a developer has plans for a hotel on the site.
But some preservationists wanted to save the building saying it was the first public building designed and built after desegregation. They launched a court fight in 2007.
Last year the state supreme court gave the go-ahead to tear down the building.
The planned hotel will be eight stories tall. The developer says the architecture will blend with the rest of downtown.
