Cops: First time drug dealer behind bars after potential customer tells police

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a 22-year-old man attempting to sell drugs for the first time was arrested after a potential customer told officers about the incident.

The Charleston Police Department arrested Timothy J. Kelleher on Friday and charged him with possession with intent to distribute MDMA/ecstasy, and resisting arrest.

On Friday at 2:05 a.m., an officer on patrol in the area of King and Radcliffe streets was flagged down by a man who said that the suspect, later identified as Kelleher, asked him if he wanted to buy drugs.
Officers say when they located Kelleher, who matched the description of the suspect, he began to walk away.

A police report states the Kelleher eventually stopped on King Street, then eventually tried to get away from police.

Police say they were able to catch Kelleher at the intersection of King and Radcliffe streets where he resisted officers' attempt to arrest him.

According to investigators, when officers asked Kelleher what he had, Kelleher spit out two clear capsules containing a crystallized powder. In addition, officers say they found a clear plastic bag containing 1.5 grams containing a similar powder found in the capsules.

During questioning, Kelleher told officers, "Tonight is my first night selling...I'm just trying to pay rent, I'm not even good at this."
