Detention officer accused of repeatedly punching restrained inmate

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A detention center officer for the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office was arrested by State Law Enforcement Division agents on Tuesday for striking a restrained inmate.

Billy Wade Biering, 49, was charged with third-degree assault and battery. Biering was locked up at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Biering struck a restrained inmate with a closed fist several times at the Hil-Finklea Detention Center on May 12 last year.
