GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says the man who led them on a chase through Charleston and Georgetown counties Thursday night has surrendered.
According to Carrie Cuthbertson, sheriff's office spokesperson, 33-year-old Travis Sentell Alston notified deputies around 1 a.m. he wanted to turn himself in.
Cuthbertson said deputies responded to Corner Loop in the Santee community of Georgetown County and took Alston into custody.
Deputies say they clocked Alston driving a 2003 Ford Expedition 95 miles per hour on Highway 17 in the southern part of Georgetown County on Thursday night. They attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Alston didn't stop, deputies said.
The chase continued on Highway 17 into Charleston County for several miles before Alston made a U-turn and pulled over, according to the Sheriff's office.
Authorities say Alston got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods.
In addition to an outstanding bench warrant, Alston is charged with reckless driving, habitual offender, failure to stop for blue lights, unlawful storage and transport of liquor, and driving under suspension second offense for DUI.
Alston is being held in the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
